An education for young families on career planning

Scenario: you are fresh out of college, or perhaps in college, with a family. This is a more common situation than was present in your parents' or grandparents' generations. You are looking forward to a career in your chosen field, but are not sure where to start. You don't have the luxury of forgoing money for internships because, again, you have a family. You've heard the buzz about degrees being required, but then see all these jobs that don't just want a person with a degree - they want experience with the education. But how are you supposed to gain experience to do the dream job you want to do when you have a family and have to keep a job down?

Children and manners

Here's a note on basic manners and how to teach them to your child. As much as you might smile or giggle when your small child tries to push an adult out of their way while saying "Move! Get out of my way!" No one else thinks its cute, and most people are thinking unhappy thoughts about you and your child. Because most of us know that child isn't going to stay small forever, and eventually you'll have a 12 year old with the exact same manners telling adults to move and get out of their way, and you'll be standing behind your child HORRIFIED and it's going to be HELL to adjust that behavior then.

1. The easiest and most basic start, treat your child how you want them to treat you. If you scream and yell at your child, don't use please or thank you when talking to them, curse at them... Well, that's teaching them how to treat you, and others.

2. Don't let bad behavior slide because they're little. You don't have to spank them, yell at them, give them a time out, or whatever your punishment of choice is. But lay down expectations so they know what's unacceptable. If they don't know the rules, how can they follow them?

3. Be consistent with them. If something is against the rules today, it should have been against the rules yesterday, it should be against the rules tomorrow, and stay against the rules for all eternity.

I hate having my kids around other kids who are rude and disrespectful. It drives me insane! And when their friends have crappy attitudes and are rude and disrespectful why in the world would I want those kids around? It's really not that hard, you just have to make an effort. The said part it, that for some parents, making that effort IS too hard.

Why Adam and Eve are universal

Where do we fit the story, or even the concept, of Adam and Eve into the modern evolution theory or education in general, both at the elementary level and through to college? Wow, that's a loaded question. But it's easy to answer: Adam and Eve as a concept, the first two humans on Earth who fostered the children that would populate their world, is a universal idea that can transcend context.
